The perimeter of a turf installation is its most vulnerable zone. Where the turf meets a fence, wall, concrete border, or planting bed, the edge is secured with nails, staples, or a transition strip. Over time, those fasteners loosen, the edge lifts, and a gap opens between the turf and the border.
Pets gravitate to edges — fence lines, gate posts, and corners are favorite marking spots. Urine that hits a lifted edge or a gap runs below the turf or collects in the crevice against the border, where no rinse can reach it. Debris, hair, and organic material accumulate in the same gaps and decompose, adding to the odor.
